Prepare a sample brief that suppliers can actually quote
For a hair mask, state your desired rinse feel, target hair type, retail or salon use and package size. For a leave-in, specify spray or pump, dose and how much weight the intended hair type can tolerate. Request the same specification from each supplier so sample and price comparisons are meaningful.
Compare the first order beyond unit price
Ask separately for formula, stock bottle or jar, label, artwork, sample freight and commercial terms. An eligible mature formula with qualified stock packaging can start at 100 pieces; changed packaging generally starts at 500 pieces, subject to the process. A low unit price can still produce a high landed cost when documentation, packaging setup and freight are excluded.
Evaluate samples before approving artwork
Use the same dose and routine for each sample. Note detangling, rinse or dry-down, fragrance preference and residue after repeat use. Check that the pump or sprayer dispenses the chosen formula consistently, and request the supplier’s available stability and compatibility documentation. Do not treat a trade-show demonstration as proof of a claim.
